The aim of the game
To win, you’ll need to satisfy the condition on the goal card that’s in play.
Setup
- Place the basic rules card in the centre of the table.
- Shuffle the deck and deal three cards to each player.
- Place the remainder of the deck face down to form a draw pile.
- Decide who goes first.
Gameplay
To start the game, take it in turns in a clockwise order to perform the basic rules: Draw 1 card and play 1 card from your hand.
Then, discard down to the current hand limit (if any) and to the current keeper limit (if any).
- When playing a card you must follow all instructions on it.
- You must play as many cards as the current rules say to. If you don’t have enough, play as many as you can.
- If the draw pile runs dry, shuffle the discard pile and turn it over to make a new one.
In Fluxx There’s 4 card types you can play:

New rules change the way you play and must be followed immediately when played. Place them face up by the basic rules. There’s no limit to the number of new rules in play. However, if a new rule card contradicts a previous rule card, discard the older one.

Goals dictate the victory conditions. Place them face up in the centre of the table and discard any previous goals. If there isn’t a goal on the table, the game can’t be won.

Keepers are played face up in front of you. Most goals will require you to have a particular pair of them.
- Actions are single use, simply do what they say and then put them in the discard pile. If an action starts off a chain of drawing or playing cards, keep going until it reaches a conclusion.
Game End & Scoring
Play continues; drawing a card, playing a card and abiding by any new rules, until a single player meets the conditions of the current goal card, irrespective of whose turn it is.
Whoever does, wins!
If two players meet the goal at the same time, keep playing until just 1 person does.
