The aim of the game
To win, you’ll need to time your trades right, buying and selling goods from the caravan. The earlier you sell the more you may make, but waiting might be worth it too!
To set up
- Place 3 camel cards in the centre of the table.
- Shuffle the deck and deal 5 cards to each player.
- Place the rest nearby and turn 2 more cards face up by the camels - this is the market
- Place any camels in your hand face up in front of you to form your herd.
- Separate the good tokens into spreads of ascending order, with the lowest values on the left and highest on the right.
- Shuffle the 3, 4 and 5 bonus tokens, make a stack of each type, with the values face down and put the camel token next to them.
- Put the 3 seals of excellence in easy reach and pick a starting player.
To play the game
Players take it in turns to perform 1 of 2 actions, trade cards or sell cards.
To trade cards you’ll take goods from the market and then replace them. There's 3 ways you can do this.
- Option 1 is to take just 1 single good (not a camel) and put it in your hand, before replacing it with the top card of the deck.
- Option 2 is to take ALL the camels from the market, add them to your herd and then refill the market with cards from the deck.
- Option 3 is to take as many goods (not camels) as you like from the market, replacing them with either camels from your herd, cards from your hand, or a mixture of the two.
You cannot replace goods in the market with ones you just took from it that turn.
You can never end your turn with more than 7 cards in your hand. Camels in your herd do not count towards this limit.
To sell goods you’ll discard them from your hand to receive good tokens.
- Choose 1 type of good from your hand, discard it face up and take the same amount of corresponding tokens, starting with the higher values from the right.
- When selling diamonds, gold or silver, you must always sell AT LEAST 2. Other items you can sell 1 or more of.
- If you sell 3, 4 or 5 of the same item, take the corresponding bonus chip.
Game end and scoring
Take it in turns either trading or selling goods until either; 3 types of good token are depleted, OR there are no cards left in the deck when the market needs refilling. The round ends immediately and scoring begins.
- Players turn over their good and bonus tokens and total them
- The player with the largest herd wins the camel token, worth an additional 5 points
- Whoever has the most points wins a seal of excellence. In the case of a tie, whoever has the most bonus tokens gets it, if that’s tied, whoever has the most goods tokens wins.
After scoring, set up a new round. The player who lost the last one starts.
Keep playing rounds until one player has 2 seals of excellence, they win!
That's Jaipur, a 2 player trade-off!
Enjoy!
