14 Nerdy & Nostalgic Films We Can't Wait to Watch in 2017 [Pictures]

There's already been a metric ton of films we've enjoyed in 2017 - Lego Batman, Beauty and the Beast, Logan and Ghost in the Shell to name a few. Here's some more that we might just make the trip to the big screen to see!

1. Guardians of The Galaxy VOL.2 (May 5th)

Baby Groot keychain in Fairyloot and Baby Groot in Guardians of The Glaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy was one of our favourite Marvel Studio films. It didn't take itself too seriously and had Vin Diesel  testing his acting capabilities to the limit by seeing how many different emotions he could convey with the word 'Groot'.

We're a big fan of talking trees at Happy Piranha and the fact that Baby Groot is set to feature in this sequel means this is something we can't miss.

We loved the Baby Groot keyring that featured in the February Fairyloot box!

2. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (May 12th)

King Arthur Legend of the Sword - Happy Piranha Blog - Films we want to see in 2017

We've no idea what to expect from this one but it has several things going for it in our opinion. It's based on the Legend of King Arthur, It's Medieval and Charlie Hunnam is in it who we enjoyed watching in Sons of Anarchy. It can't be that bad then can it?!

Robbed of his birthright and unaware of his true identity, Arthur grows up in the back alleys of the city. That's until he pulls a sword out of a stone.

Jude Law, Elizabeth Olsen and Idris Elba play starring roles in it too. Idris is in a few films on this list - he's a busy guy!

3. Alien: Covenant (May 19th)

Alien Covenant by Ridley Scott - Happy Piranha Blog - Film we want to watch 2017

We're hoping with the second part of this Alien prequel following Prometheus, that Ridley Scott can bring back the same edge of your seat suspense as in the original. We weren't totally fulfilled with Prometheus so lets hope this is tense!

David (Michael Fassbender), the 'synthetic' sole survivor of the doomed Prometheus returns on the seemingly uncharted planet that the Covenant crew discover. We're excited to see him back!

4. Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (May 26th)

Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales - Happy Piranha Blog

We didn't see the last film in this franchise but are interested to see the story from a young Jack Sparrow's perspective. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are both back for action though so don't despair!

5. Wonder Woman (June 2nd)

Marvel Wonder Woman Film 2017 - Happr Piranha Blog - films we want to watch

We've seen Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) recently in Batman vs Superman - a film that had very mixed reviews to say the least!

However, now she has her own film we're looking forward to seeing how badass she can be!

Let us know what you think and who you prefer out of Batman and Superman? It's a definite Batman here at Happy Piranha. We think he could do with a Wonder Woman to keep him from running astray though.

6. Spiderman: Homecoming (July 7th)

Spiderman Homecoming - Happy Piranha Blog - Films we want to watch 2017

Who remembers playing Spiderman on the PS1? We do - it was one of our favourite games!

Personally we preferred the earlier films in the Spiderman franchise with Tobey Maguire, but having seen the recent trailer for Homecoming it's firmly on the radar!

Who's your favourite Spiderman?

Let us know!

7. An Untitled Live Action Disney Fairy Tale!? (July 28th)

Walt Disney disneyland castle - Happy Piranha Blog - Films we want to see 2017

So here's all we know - Disney originally announced a placeholder for a live action fairy tale for December 2017, which has now been moved to July!

If the nostalgia of Beauty and the Beast was anything to go by we cant wait!

Does anyone have any ideas on what it may be?

8. The Dark Tower (August 4th)

The Dark Tower, Stepehen King and Idris Alba - Happy Piranha Blog - films we want to watch 2017

We love westerns, we love Idris Elba and we love Stephen King so this sounds like it could be great.

The Dark Tower is based on the epic book series by Stephen King. Gunslinger Roland Deschain (Idris) roams an Old West-like landscape in search of the dark tower, hoping that it will preserve his dying world.

We've never actually read these books but have always wanted to - maybe this will be our inspiration. Has anyone else?

9. Blade Runner 2049 (October 6th)

Blade Runner 2049 - Happy Piranha Blog - films we want to watch 2017

My Little Pony the Movie is coming  out at this time too so it's going to be a hard choice, but we're obviously going to choose Blade Runner.

This film is based 30 years after the last one and features Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford who will reprise his old role as Rick Deckard.

A new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years (Movie Insider).

10. Thor Ragnarok (November 3rd)

Thor Ragnarok the movie - Happy Piranha Blog - Films we want to watch 2017

We saw this image of the Incredible Hulk screaming in a Colosseum with a Roman Centurion helmet on and decided we wanted to watch this film.

In this film Thor is off to confront the gods  as Asgard is threatened with Ragnarok, the Norse apocalypse. It seems the Hulk has joined him too which is great as we are a fan of their love-hate relationship!

11. Justice League (November 17th)

Batman is at the front, because he is the best.

13. Star Wars: The Last Jedi  (December 15th)

Star Wars the Last Jedi - Dosney - Happy Piranha Nlog - films we want to watch 2017

As blasphemous as it may sound we've never been too clued up on the old Star Wars movies, though we did watch and enjoy them!

We've also enjoyed the films since Disney's takeover and will be watching the Last Jedi for sure!

Everything is cooler when its in space!

14. Jumanji (December 20th)

Jumanji 2017 - Happy Piranha Blog - films we want to watch 2017

Now, this looks cheesey as can be, especially when your pair Jack Black and Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson.

It's obviously not going to be a patch on the old Robin William's Jumanji from our childhood.

Still that's not going to stop us from watching it as it's out just in time for Christmas, the perfect time for a nostalgia and cheese overdose!

Are there any other films that you are looking forward to this year?

Let us know - we're always looking for ideas to inspire our designs!
